Spring Cleaning: What to Let Go of
Spring Cleaning is always one of those things that people refer to in the Spring, but it is really something that we should always aim to do – every so often! I usually like to do a bit of Spring Cleaning after each season – in Canada we have 4 – so this means 4 times a year, but most people I talk to like to do this every 6 months or so!
What this allows you to really do is clean up not just you closet, but also your mind – add a bit of ‘Zen’ into your life! It also allows you to really ask the question “have I actually worn this at any point in the last few months?” Many of us have our closets filled with clothes, but every time we head over to dress ourselves, we end up going for the same 5 or 6 pieces – our favourite pair of jeans, that awesome leather jacket we always love to sport and those fun and comfortable t-shirts that just make life feel like a ‘breeze’ – so why not force ourselves to pop in to our closets every so often and make those decisions – keep or let go?
If you find it hard to ‘let go’ of items, really think hard about whether or not you think it is a piece that is versatile – did you buy it because it was on trend only? Is it still trendy? Do you even like that colour anymore? The other thing that always helps me make my decisions faster, is realizing that I would be donating a lot of my clothes and really helping out others – helping my community out. You never know when you will need the help one day – and who knows – that one sweater or pair of pants from somebody else may really be everything to you. It is the little gestures that often count the most!
