Where It All Started ... Childhood Dreams Turn Into Adult Realities
I’m sure that many of you are like me and you absolutely fell in love with Disney from Day 1 – or at least what felt like Day 1. I could never quite put my finger on it – but the Disney brand always felt so magical to me – there was and always has been something very special about it – something truly everlasting. There was a level of strictness in the household when I was growing up – which meant that tv and movies were usually listed as “distractions” – I know some of you can already relate – and so as you can imagine – I wasn’t really allowed to watch anything on a regular day – but there were some special occasions and even some weekends, where there was a bit more of a relaxed approach on those days – and I could from time to time choose what I wanted to watch. I gravitated towards Disney movies of course – #ofcourse – and realized that my all time favourite was Cinderella – then Sleeping Beauty – and then well of course – Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. I can’t count the number of times that I watched those movies! I was also a huge huge huge fan of Mickey and Minnie – I almost looked at them as Mascots for the Disney brand – which is kind of what they are I suppose – the best Mascots a brand can have – right! Minnie’s character was fascinating to me and I could relate to her – because well she was a female – just like me and she carried herself in a way that inspired me and had me thinking ahead to my future – and to who I wanted to be when I grew up. Now, in all reality – I wasn’t really having those conversations with myself in my very very young hers – but the older I got – the more I started to think about that.
Toronto to Los Angeles
When I boarded the flight – I was already thinking about the palm trees and the beautiful scenery – that warm sun! January winter blues are usually in full swing at this time – so knowing that I was heading to a bright, fun destination – was a good feeling for sure. I always love flights because they are a time for us to step away from the world for a bit – build up excitement for the new destination that we are headed to – and time to catch up on some good old movies – or ‘new’ movies – whatever it is that you prefer 😉 There is always something new to watch or learn – or better yet – if you are me – you might just take this opportunity to start writing up your blog post and reading up on all of the itinerary details for the next couple of days. The Minnie Mouse Polka Dot Summit is a conference that is run by Create & Cultivate – an online platform and conference that helps women in pursuing their dreams and ambitions – bringing together like-minded females – all in the hopes of building a solid community of women who can share their stories and challenges and most importantly – how they overcame those challenges and moved on to the next level.
The itinerary that was laid out for me – was comprised of fun sessions with key speakers like the Co-Captain of the US Women’s Soccer Team – Alex Morgan and Disney’s character artist – Jeff Shelly – so as you can imagine – the anticipation was building and I was really looking forward to all that was to come!
